Herodotus

Herodotus is known as the ‘Father of History’. It is because he was the first man to record events as accurately and truly as possible. Herodotus was the first person to do a systematic investigation of historical events. His biography remains uncertain but it is believed that he was born in Halicarnassus in Ionia in the 5th century B.C. It is he who wrote The Histories. He is popular for describing the Greco-Persian wars of the late 5th century. Facts show that Herodotus belonged to a wealthy family. He spent his time in Athens and he was buried at some place in the Macedonian region. The title 'The Father of History' was first conferred to him by Cicero, the ancient Roman orator.
